A brand I am passionate about

First and foremost, I feel that it is relevant to list that I currently have the following gadgets in existence within my household:
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPad 2nd Generation
  • iPod 4th Generation
  • iMac
  • iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation
Therefore it is of no surprise to say the least that a brand I am passionate about is the globally known brand that is 'Apple'. For a number of years now, I have been enlightened and fascinated with Apple and their technology. As years go by, I always find myself purchasing a brand new Apple product, with the simple reason being I love change, I love difference. The simplicity of Apple products interest me and the progression in which is made on a daily basis always develops my passion for Apple.

The lay-out and navigation structure is another reason why I am fanatical. With the recent iOS7 update, I seem to have myself obsessed and addicted with my iPhone as how can one brand completely revolutionize a phone through a simple and basic software update. In addition to what I'v mentioned, the speed of the menu system is superb and outrageously quick for a brand which makes well over $1 billion yearly.

This is why I honestly love the brand Apple; and will continue to purchase their products as with every gadget, comes improvement, change and progression.

Final Completed Music Video

As you can see above, here is our final completed Music Video in which we have spent weeks and weeks completing. This is the final version and as you can see it has been very time consuming, but worth it in the end especially after seeing the end product. We have a number of different effects within the video which has been done as part of the editing process of our video.

I feel that our completed music video is of a good professional standard and the fact that we've spent a lot of time creating the video, the quality has definitely come across within the music video.

My Music Poster

Over the past week, I've continued with the creation of my Music Poster. I have changed quite a bit since the initial JPEG image I posted; therefore, I have improved the lay-out dramatically.

Above is my provisionally completed Music Video poster. I say the term provisionally, simply because I aim to gain audience feedback from this poster and seek to improve based on the feedback I will be receiving.

What I like about the poster?
  • The text colour looks good, creative and visually interesting
  • The band details work well
  • The main background image fits the poster and represents the band in a positive light
  • The image has all of the necessary information and therefore serves it's purpose which is to promote the band
Here above I have created and developed this poster on Adobe Photoshop. I feel that I have improved this poster by adding a better style and colour font. In addition to this, I have included where the album is available to be downloaded from as well as an image of the album cover. I also have the bands website address on the poster.

Journal - Week 9

It's been a while since I have last posted a weekly journal; therefore within this post I will be providing up-to-date analysis on how my Music Video project is commencing.

What has been happening over the past few weeks?

  • The editing has commenced in our Music Video
  • Our Music Video has finally been completed; and now we have a completed Music Video
  • I have completed my Digi-Pack
  • I have begun creating my Music Video Poster
  • I have looked into existing Music Posters; and provided detailed analysis and explanation
Editing commencing:
Since I have last posted a weekly journal, the editing within our Music Video has been spent a lot of time on. A lot of our Media lessons have solely been spent on editing on our video. Although we would've liked to of finished the editing in our Video much sooner than expected, we can now officially say we have finished.

Completion of our Music Video:
Yes we can officially say that our Music Video is completed! We successfully finished the editing of our music Video last Wednesday, and I must admit our video looks good which is what we aimed it to look like. My role within the Music Video project was: Director and as well as this my roles included being CameraMan and in charge of cinematography, and within these responsibilities I strongly feel I provided sufficient and successful contribution.

Completed my Digi-Pack:
Over the past few weeks, I have been working on my Digi-Pack project; and I have also successfully finished this area of my Music Video coursework project. I have posted my finished Digi-Pack and it is now visible here right on my blog. I am happy overall with my Digi-Pack and not only do I personally feel it is realistic, it is of a professional standard which I am proud of.

Begun Creating my Music Video Poster:
After completing my Digi-Pack and Music Video, the next area of the coursework is to create a poster and the purpose of the poster is to promote the band/artist; and in my case it is to promote the band Dragonfly. I have begun creating the poster and I have posted so far how it is shaping up. I aim to finish my poster by the end of the week.

Looked into existing Music Video Posters:
I have looked into existing Music Video Posters and the two I have analysed into are Wretch 32's poster and Mariah Carey's. They are two completely different stylised posters; and I am aiming to create my poster to look similar in terms of the standard of these posters.

Starting my Music Video Poster

As part of the next area of my coursework, I am required to create a Music video poster which is needed to promote the artist, or in my case the band Dragonfly. I will be using Adobe Photoshop to create my poster.

I have just begun the creation of my Music Video poster. I will now be uploading what I have got so far; and in addition to this, what I will be adding and what I need to do in order to progress successfully.

As you can see above I have now inserted what I have done with my poster so far. I have an edited background main image; and some relevant text. The text font style which I have again is consistent with the text style I had featured in my Digi-Pack. The fact that I have chosen to remain consistent suggests that my band are iconic and prolific.

What else will I be adding?
  • I will be adding information on the Record Label of our band 'Dragonfly'
  • Where the single & album will be available to purchase from
  • Further relevant text in regards to the band and the single and album
  • An image of the front of the bands Digi-Pack which I've created.

Research into existing Music video Posters

For this blog post, I will now be looking into posters which look advertise and promote the band. The purpose of this is so that I gain a clear insight and clear idea of what is required, so that when it comes to my creation of my poster, I will be heavily aware of what I need to do and particularly what I am required to include.

Existing Posters:

Above is the first music Poster which I will be looking at. The poster above is of the London based artist Wretch 32, and his album Wretchrospective. This poster certainly stands out and this is due to the colour scheme and font type used within the poster.

What I like about this poster?
  • The standard use of white, blue and black works well and these colours blend in well successfully.
  • The background image represents what Wretch 32's music is about and what his image stands for.
  • The text in the poster has that urban feel and vibe towards it, which again suggests the genre of Wretch 32's music
What does this poster include?
  • The artists name
  • The name of the album
  • The artists record label
  • Where the album is available to be purchased from
  • An appropriate colour scheme
  • Information about which artists feature on the album
  • The release date of the album

The poster which I have provided above is of the artists Mariah Carey and her single which is entitled Thank God I Found you. This is a very basic poster in comparison to the first one which I posted. The idea of simplicity works well within this poster as the poster does what it needs to do, which is to solely promote the artist.

What I like about this poster?
  • I like the colours in this poster. Although the colour of blue is dominant, the rainbow in the background adds a happy vibe, mood and atmosphere.
  • The use of the background image works well as it is of the sky and the connotation which i receive, is that the sky s the limit and that Mariah Carey's single is on top.
  • The font is rather cool within the poster as it looks basic; however it gels well with the atmosphere of the poster.
  • The image of Mariah Carey is tenderly attractive; therefore this will attract a larger demographic of target audience
What does this poster include?
  • A main image of the artist
  • Relevant text about the single title
  • The release date of the single
  • The artists first name

My Final Finished Digi-Pack

I will now be uploading my completed DigiPack which I have spent a lot of time on over the past few weeks. I have saved my DigiPack as a JPEG file, so that it can be viewed as a high quality image.

Here above I have my completed DigiPack. The software program which I have used for the process of my coursework is Adobe Photoshop. Using Photoshop, was fairly useful as I managed to play around with different effect which was cool. Another website called 'Rollip' was also used in the process of making my DigiPack. Rollip is a good, creative and an interesting website which enables users to add effects to images.

The text within my DigiPack has been installed manually; and I extracted the font from a handy and useful website called 'Dafont'. The font has the exact characteristics in which I was particularly looking for; therefore this font style & my DigiPack link and combine well.

The front cover of my DigiPack features a suitable image which I took and I feel that this particular front image is the ideal image, mainly because it fits in well and it specifically stands out. In addition to this, the back cover of my DigiPack has a barcode, our record label logo and the necessary tracklist. Overall I feel that the back cover of my DigiPack is also great as the girls are looking ahead, even though they are positioned behind.

Overall, I am very happy with my DigiPack as it looks professional and fairly realistic which makes me feel good about my DigiPack. The font size and style look creative, the images look top notch and in general my DigiPack has been designed appropriately.

Feedback from the class

Last week as a class activity, we provided feedback on each other's music videos. This was known as the first screening. The music video which my group and I submitted was not our finished music video, but it was close enough to the final product. I will now be uploading the feedback sheets which we were presented with.

As you can see above, I have uploaded the two feedback sheets which were given. The feedback which we got given was mainly and dominantly positive but as always there is always room for improvement. I am now going to explain the feedback which we were given.

The Positive Feedback:
  • The pace of editing was great
  • The performance and look of the band members was good
  • Cinematography worked successfully
  • Camera movement was good
  • The documentary type footage looked terrific
  • The car scenes looked great
  • The colour of the music video was nice
The Negative Feedback:
  • Some shots were too long; and therefore need cutting
  • The lip syncing could be adjusted a bit better
  • There are some gaps that run within the video
  • A few tidy up cuts should be in place

Progression with Digi-Pack

Over the past week, I have made significant progress with the Digi-Pack area of my coursework project. I have now selected and edited all of the images in which i will be using for my Digi-Pack. There is a total of six images and i feel that they are of relevance and suitability.

What's next?
  • I will be adding text
  • I will be adding a tracklist
  • I will be adding a specific font

Journal - Week 8

The past week has been a very hectic week in terms of our Music Video project. The week before last we started filming in a local park; and fortunately we managed to shoot some good scenes; however upon arrival back to school the following day, we as a group noticed that the footage had become blurry, which we knew was not acceptable at all.

What else have we completed over the past week?
  • Continued editing our Music Video
  • Re-shot a lot of footage
  • Continued with our Digi-Pack area of our coursework
Editing our Music Video:
We as a group have continued with the editing of our Music Video. Fortunately, the editing element of our Music Video is coming along successfully and we have finished editing and arranging the footage we already had stored and saved on Final Cut Pro. We did edit and implement the footage we shot in the park; but we all agreed that we cannot have blurry footage in our Music Video; therefore the scenes we shot, we will not implemented in our completed Music Video.

Reshooting footage:
Yesterday as a group we shot interior footage inside Joely's household; which we agreed that we will be using in our completed Music Video. Some of the scenes, I shot were of the girls entering, leaving the house, the band making tea; and some scenes in a car which worked out well. The next step with this footage is to edit it and cut certain shots that we feel will be needed to be used in our Music Video.

Continued with the Digi-Pack area of our coursework:
I personally have progressed with my Digi-Pack area of the coursework; and I have now added a front and back image on my Digi-Pack. In addition to this, I have added some cool, creative and interesting effects into some fo the images that I will be using, so my Digi-Pack is definitely coming along nicely.

What's next for our Music Video Project?
  • Edit the footage in which we shot yesterday
  • Continue with editing in general in preparation for screening in class next week
  • Continue with my Digi-Pack, and to finish as much as possible.

Experimenting with images for my Digi-Pack

During todays lesson, I have continued with my Digi-Pack area of my coursework, and what I felt I needed to do today was experiment with different effects to see what sort of images I can potentially use.

Below are a few effects which I have played around with today:

Explanation:
Above as you can see, I have experimented with several different effects; and I have posted a selection of them in which I personally like.

  1. With the first image, I have 'Cartoonized' the image; and I like this effect as it enables the image to look fantasy like.
  2. With the second image, the effect seems rather bold and strong; and due to this, the general connotation of the image is power and creativity.
  3. The third image, in which I have has a cool effect which I have added. The filter on this image, adds an interesting tone to the photo; and this is exactly why I like the image.
  4. The fourth and final image I have posted is an interesting image, simply because it is bright which sets off a positive connotation of the image.

Creating the Digi-Pack

Today I began creating my Digi-Pack design.

I have been using Photoshop to create my Digi-Pack, and I am aiming to use this particular image above as my front cover for my Digi-Pack.

What have I done with this image?
With this image, I have added the Black & White effect; and I have decided to do this, simply because it adds a positive atmosphere towards the image. In addition to using the Black & White effect, I have coloured in the girls natural eye colour and implemented it back into this edited image. To do this, I simply added a new layer of the original image in Photoshop. Following this, I then removed the layers around the eye-line area; and then the original colour of the image was inserted into to this Black & White image.

What's the next step in the process of my Digi-Pack coursework?
The next step within my Digi-Pack process is to utilise some further images in which we took and implement them around the different areas in which is needed on a Digi-Pack

Journal - Week 7

The last week has been very productive with the progression of our Music Video. For example, we have completed the following:

  • A photoshoot for our Digi-Pack area of our coursework
  • Continued with the editing of our Music Video
  • Updated my blog, with relevant screenshot evidence
Photoshoot:
Last Thursday as a group we completed a photoshoot at a local park; and now a lot of these photos are now on one of my previous blog posts. We have also experimented with these photos and edited them with some cool effects.

Continued with the editing of our Music Video:
We again have continued with the editing of our Music Video, and it is coming along nicely. Also, I have posted several relevant screenshots to provide evidence that we are getting along well wit the editing process of our Music Video.

Updated my blog:
Over the last week, in order to keep being productive, I have updated my blog with suitable posts, which provides sufficient proof that we are getting along well.

What's next for us as a group?
The next step for us is to shoot another scene which will be in our final completed music video; and following this, we will be continuing with the Digi-Pack process of our coursework.

Planning and Hand Drawn designs for my Digi-Pack Design

For this post, I will be uploading and describing my Digi-Pack hand drawn designs which I have carefully drawn and created as part of the production and planning area of my Media coursework. I have spent quite a lot of time on this design and I feel that it is an appropriate design; therefore, I would like to utilize this design in my completed Digi-Pack.

Here as you can see I have uploaded four different angles of my Digi-Pack hand drawn design. I in particular like this hand drawn design, simply because of it's use of effective colors and consistent creativity. The lighting in the photos is tenderly dark but this isn't a drawback for the quality of the drawn design.

Will I be using this design?
As I really like this design that I have just drawn, I feel that I will use this design mainly because it is suitable, relevant and appropriate back to what the band is about.

Digipack Photo shoot and editing

For this post, I will be uploading our photos in which we have taken over the past week, for the Digi pack area of our coursework. We took these photos in a nice, local park; and we have taken quite a lot of photos so that we can experiment and play around with different shots.

Here is a contact sheet of a selection of the photos in which I took of the girls last week. As you can see, I had a huge responsibility as I had to take care of framing, composition and all of the other necessary details in which are needed to make a photo shoot successful. Here, on this contact sheet there are group shots, individual singular shots and of scarves in which is an idea we have taken into consideration.

Here is the same set of photos as above, but here we have experimented with different effects, in order to make our photos look visually interesting and of course professional and of a high standard.

Here above, we have played about with colour on the above photos; and i must say I really do like this colour effect; as these set of photos seem industry standard; and of very good quality. The use of black and white combined with colour suggests the connotation of professionalism and that a good mood and atmosphere is being created.

Here on the above contact sheet, we have simply used the black and white effect on the photos. What I particularly like, about this effect is that although the photos are simple, they provide the connotation of tradition and of the genre in which our Music Video is.

Overall, however I am very pleased with how our coursework is coming along; and I strongly feel that we are getting along alright, and I am looking forward to sharing our final completed Digi-pack coursework on my blog.

Editing

Over the past week, as a group we have begun and continued with the editing process of our Music Video. The editing software, we have used is Final Cut Pro.

Here are some screenshot evidence of our editing process:

Overview of our editing process:

As you can see from the above screenshots in which we have taken, the editing process of our Music Video is coming along very nicely. In addition to what I have just mentioned, we have been playing around and experimenting with transitions and positive effects on Final Cut Pro; so there is a little surprise to look out for.with our Music Video.

Journal - Week 6

This week in Media, has been a fairly eventful week as we have continued with the progression of our Music Video.

What have we done in Media this week?
  • We have began editing the footage in which we have shot
  • We have continued filming our Music Video; as for example, we filmed the performance areas of our video
  • We were again due to film on Friday; however due to adverse and unexpected weather conditions, we were unable to shoot.
Editing:
The editing of our Music Video has begun and as a group, we will be using Megan's account to save our project. The editing software program, we have begun using is Final Cut Pro. We are also interested in including some effect within our Music Video, and Final Cut Pro offers this opportunity.

Performance filming of our Music Video:
Last Tuesday, we continued filming our Music Video, in an internal location. The location in which we filmed at had special strobe lighting in which we experimented with and found rather useful. I of course performed my role as Cameraman/Director; and fortunately I managed to shoot some useful shots which we will be using in our final finished Music Video. As a group, we were able to film with the broadcasting camera, which came in handy as the quality of our footage shall improve by using this piece of technology. The girls: Megan, Charlotte & Joely all performed their roles to good effect; and we were able to get ahold of the instruments from the music department in which were required.

Not being able to film on Friday due to adverse Weather conditions:
We were intending to to film on Friday morning, but because of the adverse weather conditions, we had to opt out of film, because it was consistently snowing; and the general atmosphere of our Music Video is warm and positive; and this is totally in contrast with what the snow connotes. We will however film what were intending to film on Friday, in due course; and once a date is confirmed, I will  be posting the necessary information on my blog.

What's next for us as a group?

  • To continue with the filming of our Music Video project
  • To continue with the editing
  • To begin experimenting with designs for our digipack part of the coursework

Our New & Updated Production Plan

Explanation:

Within this post, I will be posting our new and improved Production Plan, in which we have agreed upon as a group. We discussed, and consequently created a new Production Plan during our Media lesson on Wednesday. Creating a new production plan didn't take us long at all. We discussed what days are all convenient and suitable for all four of us as a group, and fortunately we managed to arrange convenient dates, which of course is a great success, in the progression of our Music Video project.

Production Plan For Filming is as follows:

Wednesday 9th January 2013:
This day has now passed, however on Wednesday, we completed the following:

  • Decided on suitable and appropriate dates for us all as explained above
  • We booked out the Camera and the necessary equipment which we felt we needed. This included a Tripod
  • In addition to what I have mentioned, we checked the Weather forecast for Friday 11th January, simply because we didn't want any adverse weather conditions to affect the filming of our Music Video

Friday 11th January 2013:
This date is of course today's date; and I must comment and say today was a very successful day in the contribution of progressing with our Music Video project; mainly because we began shooting the first few scenes which will be the opening scenes for our completed Music Video.
The necessary details for the filming today were as follows:
- Edwin Close, Bexleyheath, Kent
- Time: 8:30am - 11:00am

The costumes the girls wore today can be described as:
  • Megan: Casual skirt with top, tights and a denim jacket
  • Charlotte: Jeans, nice top & shoes
  • Joely: Skirt, Flowery top, tights & shoes

Monday 14th January 2013:
For Monday's lesson, as a group together we intend to edit the footage in which we shot today being the 11th January. The editing software which we are scheduled to use is: Final Cut Pro.

Tuesday 15th January 2013:
On Tuesday we are scheduled to continue with the filming of our Music Video. The time which we will begin filming shall be from 3:00pm onwards.

Wednesday 16th January:
Again on Wednesday, we have a Media lesson, and what we have agreed to do as a group is to continue with the editing in which we have already done and in addition to this, we would like to begin editing the footage, which we will be shooting on Tuesday the 15th January.

Journal - Week 5

This week has been a very productive week, in terms of progression in our Music Video project.
For instance, we have completed the following this week:
  • We had our first rehearsal this week, in which we took several photographs, which are now on our blogs
  • We have a new, better and updated Production Plan, which we will be following.
  • We have finally started shooting our Music Video; as today we began initial filming
Further Explanation into each task we completed:

Rehearsal & Band Photoshoot this week:
On Monday's Media lesson, as a group; we felt that it was relevant and appropriate to do an initial rehearsal and a band photoshoot. This took us about one hour to complete, and I would say that what we did was highly beneficial and useful as we managed to rehearse what we were going to do in our actual filming of our Music Video. In addition to this, I as the Cameraman/Director took several photos of the girls, and with these photos they will be relevant and suitable to use for our DigiPack designs, mainly because the girls were dressed up; and had the appropriate make-up on.

Our New Production Plan:
On Wednesday, as a group together, we discussed what days we are all convenient and ready to begin shooting our Music Video. Following this, we wrote down dates which we are all available, and fortunately we successfully sorted out suitable dates for all of us. I will be uploading our new Production Plan soon.

Shooting our Music Video:
Today, being Friday morning; we started filming our Music Video, which consequently turned out to be a huge success. Despite the cold weather, everything went well and according to plan. We used the same setting, but a few different locations, which of course was how it worked out in our storyboards. Furthermore, we also took a few Instagram shots, which we are intending to include in the beginning of our Music Video.

What's next for our Music Video Project?
  • To continue with the filming of our Music Video
  • To begin editing the footage we have already got
  • To update our blogs with what we will be doing

Shots From Todays Rehearsal

During todays Media lesson, as a group we decided that it was convenient to rehearse, in preparation for the filming of our music video.

How did our rehearsal today go?
I felt that our rehearsal today was a success simply because we managed to sort out what is expected when it comes the actual filming of our music video. Today as a group, we rehearsed in a well lit room, in which we were able to experiment with the lights. As my role within the project is Cameraman/Director, I took several photographs so that we can look back on these photos and see what we like and dislike.

I photographed Charlotte, Megan and Joely individually and as a band together. The girls were also accompanied by the actual instruments, in which they will be playing in our music video. We used a Canon Camera to photograph; and we also brought a tripod along for our rehearsal, so that the shots that I would take, would be framed and composed well.

Overall, we spent around about an hour rehearsing and within this hour, this included:

  • Taking photographs of the band, individually and together
  • Sorting out different positions; and where Charlotte, Megan & Joely should stand
  • Experimenting with the lighting in the room we were in
Below are a selection of shots from todays rehearsal:

Location Shots For Our Music Video

Over the Christmas holidays, we all agreed as a group that we needed to take some 'Location Shots' as part of research and planning for our music video project; and within this blog post, I will be providing evidence of the 'Location Shots'.

This is the location in which we are intending to film certain elements of our music video:

What I like about this location?

  • This is a quiet location, so there will be little interruptions
  • This location is set in a narrow road; so again we will not need to worry about the arrival of vehicles
  • As this is a quiet location, people wont be able to walk in on us during filming
  • The location is traditional, which will be appropriate to our music video
